I hope that you don't mind me entering into this community. Strangely enough I'm not yet Muslim, and I'm not American, but I'd like to think that Australia and US have a lot in common (including our President and Prime Minister being best buddies!!)

I have always had a fascination and a very deep respect for Islam. Some of my recent posts in LJ have been borne out of my current concern with current world affairs, and how some of the stereotypes that are thrown around (especially since 9/11) are just so damaging to the Islamic faith, and all the peacefulness that is inherent in Islam.

While I'm still on the path to discovering just exactly where I stand with my own personal faith (I grew up in a Methodist/Uniting Church family .. and have never really followed that in my adult years, and now have a Muslim partner and many many beloved friends who are Muslim), I believe I can make a difference to how some of my own friends see Islam, just by starting conversations and encouraging them to think outside of the square box that our media puts Islam and religion in general into.

Anyway, I'm really not sure what else I wanted to say - other than I wish everyone well for Ramadan, and hope that it is everything you all want/need it to be.
